Trumpet player & composer Jonathan Powell returns to hometown St. Petersburg, with his group nu Sangha to celebrate their new release "Beacons of Light" featuring brother and saxophonist Jeremy Powell. The two brothers, have been rising stars in the New York City jazz scene performing with Eddie Palmieri, Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Miguel Zenon and JT Taylor of Kool & the Gang to name a few.

The group will play an original and fiery mix of Jazz with modern influences such as John Coltrane, Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band, Squarepusher, Pat Metheney and Freddie Hubbard. Jonathan Powell & nu Sangha's release "Beacons of Light" is an album celebrating the great lives and contributions of exceptional men and women who have blessed humanity with enlightening teachings....

The album was made possible by a Kickstarter project which backed by 224 backers partially funded "Beacons of Light". Musically speaking, each tune is written for an inspirational person or "beacon of light". Some examples are the composition "Daskalos", an adventurous upbeat tune dedicated to the Christian mystic and Cypriot Stylianos Atteshlis; "Mawlana", a middle-eastern tinged song written for the Sufi mystic and poet Rumi; and "Liberation", penned for Aung San Suu Kyi who under house arrest for nearly two decades has fought for democracy in Burma.
